The Awakening return with their 8 th album already, and the third that's available outside the UK and their native South Africa ! Musically the band has grown from a traditional gothic rock sound, to a sound that is very much their own. Their most recent album "Darker Than Silence" (2004) saw the band tour the USA and continued the growth of their international appeal. The Awakening has just completed their 8th studio album "Razor Burn", which the band describes as "dark and powerful, with a mercury-like fluidity and surreal optimism - the best Awakening album yet". - Since 1995, the band established themselves as South Africa´s national icon for all things dark in the world of music, with their blend of their Gothic roots and a Dark-Future-Rock energy. The band has since enjoyed cult status as well as more chart success than most of their mainstream competitors. Since their birth, they have also enjoyed a very healthy live show history, as a band who believes in the art of passionate performance. The Awakening has always been the creative expression of singer/songwriter/ producer Ashton Nyte, who is responsible for the vocals and a generous portion of the instrumentation on each release. The band have to date been featured in top alternative magazines like Zillo, Orkus, HM and Sonic Seducer as well as compilations by various International labels including COP International "Dark Awakening", Cleopatra´s "Unquiet Grave 2", Cold Fusion´s "Moonlight Cathedral" among others. MTV Europe, countless radio stations, clubs and ´zines have all joined the avalanche of world wide Awakening awareness which seems to grow from month to month.
