MERRY go beyond being merely J-Rock, having been born from the Visual Kai sub-genre known as Eroguro - a combination of erotic and grotesque., with focus on eroticism, sexual corruption and decadence. The contrasting aesthetics of being creepy yet attractive, bizarre yet beautiful perfectly captures MERRY'S exploding cocktail of metal, punk, ska and hardcore, with some jazz influences thrown in for good measure, and no doubt contributed to the huge interest in the band. Their first single "Haikara san ga tooru" achieved cult status in Japan, leading to their first headline show and creating a buzz as one of the hottest acts in Osaka, with word reaching the metropolis of Tokyo and in 2005 MERRY found themselves with a major record deal. Waving goodbye to the independent world with a nationwide tour and a best-of album, in September that year MERRY released "Nu Chemical Rhetoric" - an album that grabbed the attention of European based J-Rock label Gan-Shin records, who subsequently released the album in 2006.Having tested the foreign waters, MERRY return with a new album, set for worldwide release on 20th April 2009. A continuation of MERRY's unique style, "Under World"s European version contains two exclusive bonus tracks."Under World" is released via Gan-Shin on 20th April 2009.
